The method
1. Find the first wrong decision
Reconstruct your reasoning before reading the answer explanation again. Did you misread an axis, use the wrong relationship, assume a cause or import outside knowledge? These are practical learning labels, not a score diagnosis.
2. Choose a repair that matches the error
A graph-reading error needs a task involving axes, units and comparisons. A missing principle may need a short content review followed by closed-book explanation. Writing “review everything” hides the decision you need to change.
3. Test the repair in a changed context
Use a fresh problem that requires the same reasoning step. A familiar answer can feel easier because you remember it. Separate recalling the previous key from explaining why a new answer follows.
WORKED EXAMPLE
Three misses, three different repairs
Miss 1: you read concentration as time. Repair: name both axes and units before interpreting a new figure. Miss 2: you knew an inverse relationship but predicted both quantities would rise. Repair: write the relationship and test it with simple numbers. Miss 3: you chose a CARS answer based on background knowledge the passage never supplied. Repair: identify the sentence or inference in the passage that supports each candidate answer. These repairs target different decisions; the same generic note would not do that.
PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
Your workshop
Your answers stay in this open page unless you choose to save on this device or download. Use fictional or de-identified learning examples; leave out patient and other people’s private information.
Check the reasoning
Choose an answer to see an explanation. These are learning checks, not an official exam or score prediction.
Build your worksheet
Try a changed situation
You calculated a percentage using the follow-up value as the denominator when the question asked for change from baseline. Write a repair and fresh check.
Take away: A useful error log ends with an action you can actually perform and check.
Answer both learning checks to enable your review record.
Marking reviewed records your own activity. It does not establish mastery or readiness.
